High Velocity Deconsolidation / Cross Dock
In summary, the California Cartage Deconsolidation System is an internally custom designed system that allows fast, efficient unloading of high-volume deconsolidation or cross-dock freight and outbound loading to customer distribution centers and/or stores. Heavy use of RF-scanning technology minimizes clerical input, reduces manual errors, and allows real-time tracking of freight movement throughout the entire process. Data interfaces with customers, consolidators, brokers, carriers and port authorities allow rapid information exchange, providing automatic and timely tracking throughout the supply chain. Real-time status displays and reports provide both Cal Cartage and customer management the information needed to efficiently analyze, plan, and supervise operations.

As opposed to a traditional Warehouse Management System, the Cal Cartage Deconsolidation System is optimized for high-volume cross-dock movement. Although it can handle product storage and picking from storage, its emphasis is on cross-dock speed. At its best, the freight never even touches the floor - cartons can be lifted out of an inbound container and placed in an outbound trailer in a single operation. High-speed and low-speed operations are seamlessly integrated, so that a single inbound container can have a portion of its cargo travel the immediate cross-dock route and the rest be placed into storage for later shipping. Storage freight may be transferred to our dedicated Warehouse Management System for long-term storage or more complex distribution situations.
Tight integration with customer IT organizations has proven highly successful. We are able to process customer distribution instructions, inbound manifests, and status notifications via standard EDI formats, proprietary flat-files, CSV, MS-Excel or even plain-text emails, and return outbound manifests, load tenders, status notifications and analytical reports using any of the same methods.
